Santa Rosa Babe Ruth has two leagues consisting of 13-15
year old division and a 16-18 year old division. Playing age is
determined by your age as of May 1 of that given year of application.
The 13-15 division is a competitive league that plays
games at Cook Junior High School, Elsie Allen High School and at our
home field Doyle Park. Doyle Park is one of the premier baseball fields
in our area. In the fall of 2007 the City of Santa Rosa will be
renovating the field lighting and playing area for the spring of 2008
which will further upgrade this quality playing field.
Signups for the 13-15 division are held in early January
with tryouts held in early March. Players who try out are drafted
immediately after for the playing season which starts in mid May. The
regular season runs until late June and tournament play commences in
early July. The tournament cycle consists of District play with the
winner advancing to the State Tournament. The winner of the State
Tournament advances to the Regional Tournament with the champion
advancing to the Babe Ruth World Series. The winning team receives an
all expenses paid trip to the World Series. There is a tournament
series for each specific age group. Santa Rosa Babe Ruth consistently
has one or more of its Tournament teams representing our organization in
the Tournament Series with our 14 year old division reaching the
Regional Tournament in the spring of 2006 in Sacramento, California.
Santa Rosa Babe Ruth returned to the 16-18 division of
Babe Ruth Baseball in the spring of 2003. Since that time this division
has been renamed the North Bay 16-18 league. This league is comprised
of teams from Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Novato and Sonoma. Each city
provides a team and fluctuates from 4 teams to 8 teams depending on the
amount of players signed up on any given year. This division has the
ability to travel to other areas for play and is getting increasingly
stronger every year. Each city hosts league games which also gives the
players the opportunity of travel.
In the spring of 2005 the North Bay league won the 16-18
State Tournament held in San Leandro, California and advanced to the
Regional Tournament in Watsonville, California. The Santa Rosa 16-18
team has played in tournaments outside of Babe Ruth in Illinois and
Redondo Beach and was invited to play in the Hawaii World Series of
Baseball. The 16-18 team also was the runner up in the Championship
game of the “Best of the West Baseball Tournament” held in Redondo
Beach, California in the spring of 2006. The North Bay league also
competes against Connie Mack and Joe DiMaggio baseball teams from
Northern California as well as other Babe Ruth teams throughout Northern
California.
Signups for the 16-18 division are held in late April
with games commencing in late May after the local High School Season.
Tournament play commences in mid July.
Santa Rosa Babe Ruth in 2005 lost one of our board
members suddenly and the “Carolyn Warner Wood Bat Memorial Tournament”
was founded. This year will be our third year of hosting this
tournament which is one of the premier tournaments in California. This
is an 8 team tournament with teams from all over California
participating. The Santa Rosa 16-18 team won the inaugural tournament
in 2005. This year’s tournament will be held June 29-July 2, 2007.
This tournament is a fundraiser to help our 16-18 teams with expenses
while traveling to various locations for tournament play.
Babe Ruth baseball for the 13-15 year old division was
founded in 1951. Each local league chartered with Babe Ruth
International is able to administer its own program within the framework
of the Rules and Regulations of Babe Ruth Incorporated. Each state,
province or territory operates under the elected State Commissioner. In
most states the State Commissioner is assisted by District
Commissioners. There are eight western states that comprise our
region. They are Utah, Arizona, Guam, Hawaii, Northern California,
Central California, Southern California and Nevada. These areas are
governed by a Regional Commissioner who also serves on the Board of
Directors of Babe Ruth International.
The 16-18 division of Babe Ruth Baseball was founded in
1966 and has increased its membership steadily since its inception.
This age division was formed as there were limited opportunities for
players once they completed the 13-15 year old division. The purpose of
this division is to provide a community level program which eventually
gives the players the opportunity to participate in the 16-18 World
Series. Babe Ruth Baseball has several players who have progressed to
the Professional Baseball level and continue to assist Babe Ruth League
in its development of the youth of our country.
In closing I hope your experience with Santa Rosa Babe
Ruth is an enjoyable experience for your entire family. The Santa Rosa
Babe Ruth Board is unanimous in making this your league and is always
striving to be the top baseball league in our area. If you have any
questions or concerns or even want to volunteer in some capacity please
contact us at our Web Site santarosababeruth.com and one of our
members will contact you.
